Hello— first off, sorry I missed last week! Last Monday, I was driving in a torrential downpour from Portland to Seattle, and then, frankly, I forgot. And then Tuesday I like, tweaked my back out, and sitting up was so uncomfortable for 48 hours, so I decided to chill the fuck out (my perfectionist tendencies were flaring up) and just let it go. Perhaps someday I’ll do a surprise mid-week edition, so there’s two in one week, to make up for it. But we’ll see!
I started this newsletter four years ago, isn’t that wild? I don’t think I ever believed it would last this long, frankly, both the newsletter and COVID. But I’m glad I did this. Sometimes it’s been stressful, for sure, but overall, it’s been a good exercise, and it’s fun to look back at past entries and get a snapshot of both myself and the world.
There’s a woman named Bronte on Instagram (and TikTok and YouTube) who wears the cutest dresses and re-creates make-up looks, like Keira Knightley’s look in Pride & Prejudice, or Arwen’s lip look from Lord of the Rings. What I really like, though, is how soothing her voice is, LOL. She’s providing an ASMR service! Truly three things I love: cute dresses, fun make-up, ASMR.
The K-Drama my grandma & I are watching is Marry My Husband, on Amazon Prime (thank you to my friend Tiara, who told me about it!!). It’s iconic. Originally a webtoon, it’s about a really sad woman, who’s dying of cancer. She had a terrible husband, and discovered that he was cheating on her with her best (and only) friend. When she dies, she wakes up… ten years in the past! She gets to do it all over again, and this time, she’s going to get what she deserves, and she’s going to make sure her husband (who is not yet her husband) and best friend get what they deserve, too. It’s deliciously soapy and I’m enjoying this woman’s journey into self-actualization and revenge. (Plus, there’s obviously a hottie with a heart of gold who we know is gonna be endgame. What more can you ask for!)
This week’s recipe is Herby Skillet Chicken With Greens. I just made this for dinner tonight; it was very easy! We had it over rice, but it would be equally good with some bread to mop up the buttery, garlic, chicken broth.
Astrology time - whew! What isn’t happening? The vernal equinox, the start of Aries season, a full-moon eclipse... Not to be alarmist, but take care. It will be pretty chaotic, frankly. If you know your chart, whichever house Aries is in for you, be aware that that area of your life will be impacted especially. Is there anything you can do? Eh, not really. Sometimes you just gotta ride things out, like a wave.
Today’s Poem: “Anecdote” by Elizabeth Clark Wessel
I am out of words. But I am never out of feelings. Once Dad and I were driving in a 1964 Plymouth. I was eight years old. The world stretched out infinitely around me. And a song came over the radio waves. A voice from dust and rust. Pure and quite beautiful. We slowed down to hear it longer. Laughed, it was so sweet. It comes back again, I promise. My face is wet. The house is a quiet dog. Maybe the sick bat is waking up. I am glad to be alive. I am glad you are alive. Am I allowed to say it like that? Goodnight. I love you.
That’s all from me. Stay safe, take care, and see you next time.
