weird question, but: did “asteroid city” actually accomplish what “the boy & the heron” wanted to?
i’m leaning towards “yes”
Hello— it feels like this is the first edition of 2024 in which it is not a holiday nor am I traveling, but that’s technically not true. But it feels true! I will say that it is my mother’s birthday (🥳) which is a kind of holiday to me, although perhaps not to her).
For everyone who’s discovered journaling in the new year, here’s some music to further set the vibes:
I never watched fan-favorite disappointment How I Met Your Mother but boy did I devour this edition of Gossip Time, in which Allie Jones read the NYT Vows article about the wedding of the main dude (name already forgotten) so none of us would have to. If you don’t end up reading either article, please just consider this quote, from one of the couple’s friends, about their relationship: “They are in a perpetual ‘college-dorm-go-deep’ mode that most adults abandon after graduation.” Do you think this friend hates them? Do you think the couple were so high (they met while tripping on mushrooms, so this is actually an informed query) when they presumably approved this quote that they didn’t realize that this was actually an extremely incisive, bone-chilling insult? Actors are so weird.
Can you believe it’s already Cookie Time? If you don’t have a dealer/Girl Scout in your life, may I suggest ordering from a trans girl scout/troop?
The astrological waters are calm this week, and although I did cook a lot last week, I don’t have the recipes! Maybe I’ll have something for next week.
Today’s Poem: I especially loved this week’s Devin Kelly’s poetry newsletter, which featured Madeleine Cravens’ “Leaving”.
That’s all from me. Stay safe, take care, and see you next time.
